Ravine didn’t have time to consider if perhaps she had been wrong, or just unlucky in her timing. Almost immediately after her call for company, she received an answer, and not the kind she was looking for.

A golden colt came out of nowhere, making a beeline toward the young grullo mare which made her uneasy even before he ducked his head and flattened his ears. As he neared, aggression becoming more apparent in his movements, Ravine let out a squeal in warning and tossed her head. Her blue eyes rolled back as she angled her hindquarters toward him, not really intending to kick, just wanting to convince him.

The colt did not appear convinced. He came straight at her, landing a sharp little bite on her flank, and then Ravine did kick. She didn’t really mean to, but she really had not expected to be bitten, and she was tired and irritated from her swim and found she did not particularly want to deal with this manner of company.

Despite her kick, the young stallion was not deterred, and continued to drive her. ”Doesn’t seem too lucky to me,” she spat, prancing forward to avoid his bites, furious suddenly at the prospect of being driven. Ravine had never really experienced mistreatment in her young life, but she had been hardened by her early seasons facing the harsh elements, and found that weathering a bossy stallion wasn’t much worse than a bad storm. Still, she liked it only half as much as poor weather, and made her displeasure known in the form of many squeals and kicks toward the golden stallion’s head as he moved her.

”And just where do you think you are taking me?” she demanded. He might be able to wrestle her to whatever hole he had crawled from, but damned if he could manage to keep her there.

Ravine;
