Re(6): Radio These Days

Again, Jim, you're pretty fast and loose with the word 'professional.' Radio isn't a profession. Its an occupation. Or a niche media industry. I told you years ago that I got bored at WHB ripping and reading. Mead was okay with that, rewriting the paper or letting the wire service's broadcast wire writer do it.

I wanted more. I went back and headed one of the last AM stations with a newsstaff of 5. Nearly what BZ has, if you don't count their morning readers. I liked reporting, getting out in the field, learning something and then telling it in package or series format.

You keep saying I was a rip and reader. HB was the ONLY place where I did that. Til I got there and begged for a cassette player to take to the 76 RNC convention, they had no portable ability other than phoners. No network even. THAT was rip and read and I was out of there as soon as I could leave.

You're a little like Trump, keep telling a lie and eventually people believe it.

BTW, the difference between NEWS and SALES, is that NEWS is about telling TRUTH.

SALES is about PERSUASION. There was an occupational skills test out of the University of Chicago in the 70s called the "16 PF" It helped people match their Personality traits with suitable occupations for which they'd be successful. It asked a whole bunch of questions and scored em based on occupational traits of successful people in those fields.

One scored criteria was called "Approval Lying". People with high scores in that category matched with sales work. Seems by your writing in here, you must have scored high in that, which helped you convince small, naïve businesses that radio's always a good buy.

If it was, why isn't everybody buying time on radio? Just sayin.
