Nissa had responded by saying that she didn’t believe she was the best wolf for the job. Skyfire’s heart was starting to slowly sink into the pit of her stomach with disappointment. Perhaps it was a dumb idea to put such high expectations ontop of young and immature shoulders. The pair of them weren’t even fully grown yet. However, Skyfire thought that this would be the perfect time to start assembling the group before any of them became bonded to mates, became parents or possibly lead their own packs in the distant future. There was a hidden strength to Nissa. The crimson guardian could sense it just beneath those layers of grey and black fur. And then a word fell from her friends lips that made Skyfire halt mid stride. Killed?
Slowly Skyfire turned around. Her ice blue gaze melted as Nissa shrunk closer to the ground. Black rimmed ears strained to catch every detail. Her heart was beating heavily against her lungs. She wasn’t afraid of Nissa, and she wasn’t disgusted by her either. In fact, Skyfire was more wondering how? She parted her own jaws slightly and tried to imagine how she, a young wolf, would be physically able to kill another?
Finally Nissa comes clean about Asteraia’s dark reputation. A line of cannibals and vampires? The crimson guardian actually tilts her head to one side as her grey friend explains her heritage, clearly intrigued by Nissa's different upbringing. She would find no judgement on that white splashed face, just a willingness to listen and learn. She was actually happy that her friend had the courage and deepest resolve to stand up straight and be proud of who she was, no matter how controversial the lifestyle was.
A grin breaks across her face as the black masked vampire questions the meaning behind the chosen title. “The laughter in the wind was usually the last thing a wolf heard before they met their end…” She pauses for dramatic effect before adding a low playful growl. Gently wagging her tail from side to side gently Skyfire goes on, “You and I, Nissa, we’re not as different from each other as you think.” She takes a moment to look around them to check that they were still alone before she elaborates. “My grandfather was a cannibal.” Well, was? Skyfire’s not entirely sure if that male was still alive or not, she had never actually met him. She had only heard tales of him from her aunts and the other members of her former pack. In truth, she didn’t even know his name, as the others had all refused to use his birth name or is notorious titles.
”My mother and her sisters, both by blood and adoption, founded the group in order to bring some balance back to our hunting grounds after my grandfather was permanently banished by my grandmother.” Glacier eyes sparkled with pride as she quietly recanted the members and the titles that adorned them, “Lightning Fang, the Thunder Spear. Heitala, the Tundra Guide. Valcura, the Silver Sage and finally Valkyria, the Laughter in the Wind.”
