Halo’s tail swishes at her haunches as she looks out to the sea. The islands spread out before her, and she can see them on the horizon. It was truly a beautiful sight, and she’s looking forward to exploring them all. She was pleased with that. There was so much before her, and Halo was ready.
There are footsteps in the water, splashing. She feels safe here, maybe unreasonably so. Halo is naive to boot. She doesn’t want to pull her eyes from the horizon. She doesn’t want to look away, not until he’s closer. She’s too enchanted by it. She’s too drawn in. The girl is so pleased with it, and with life as it is. Her heart is heavy, leaving her parents behind, but it’s time. It’s more than time. Finally, Halo is on her own and grabbing her freedom.
As the stranger draws closer, Halo’s head slowly turns. Her gaze is soft on his face. “Yes, it’s nice after the cold of the sea.” The woman’s voice is gentle, and she doesn’t speak very loudly. Halo hasn’t really had anyone to talk to for the last couple weeks. Traveling alone can be lonesome, and she’s pleased to have company. “I’d be grateful for it,” her ears flicker forward. She looks to the man, and then back to the sea.
“Are you from this area?” Halo cants her head to the side just a bit, eyes settling on the man once more. He is broad, strong. Her question is soft, curious. The woman is careful, polite in the distance she keeps, but she’s grateful that the man’s presence breaks the stiff sea breeze. Halo doesn’t do as well with the cold.
