what you know is not always important

she was alone, and she liked it.
it was the way she had learned
everything important in her life.

It occurred to Faelyn that she should be a little more cautious. After all, she had no idea who this stallion was or what he wanted - if anything - from her. She had been schooled to expect that friends were rare to find, and often the horses who were the friendliest were the ones that you should pay closest attention to. But for all the warnings she had received, she sensed no malice from the handsome red stallion, and so she resolved to simply let things play out.

Her gentle gaze rested on his face as his features tightened at their proximity. Faelyn was not the sort of creature to take offense, especially considering that he was free to leave if he found her so abhorrent. She said nothing, only tilted her head inquisitively and remained silent. She knew that she could not possibly smell bad after the storm bath only moments ago and the ocean dip not long before that, and simply decided to stop worrying about it. If it were not something that could be changed, it was not worth her time to mull it over.

Not when there was something as fresh and new as the moment they found themselves in.

She looked up again at the sound of his words, and then further up and beyond to the stars above with a faint smile. The canopy above blocked out most of the stars in Paradise, and in truth, she had never before noticed how simultaneously close and far away the stars overhead seemed. Awestruck now that the clouds had cleared and the sky above was revealed in all its glory, Faelyn said nothing as she stared, her gaze darting across the sky for the one star she'd always been able to find. Once located, she smiled softly and turned back to him.

"It is," she finally answered, after a pause that was just slightly too long. Unable to look away for long now that she knew it was there, her bright gaze cast upward again. They were so close she felt as if she could almost touch it. "I've never seen so many stars at once. Are all the nights like this, here?" Her voice grew softer as she finally tore her gaze away again to watch her companion, her slender face tilting in inquiry once more. "Or is tonight special?"
