PRIME MINISTER'S DECREE

"None." - Leader

The Offspring

Diccon (Cicada x Khar'pern)

Rules

• The Vulcan Peak is where homeless mares come to live as a sisterhood. Stallions may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Warriors keep mainly to fighting, Thinkers keep mainly to raiding, and Politicians may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Codebreaker or Prime Minister for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Prime Minister maintains order within the Peak and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Peak works on the Rules page.

HEROES GET REMEMBERED

Maybe someday Anath would tell the Prime Minister to be about Heart… about her Heart. About the woman that set the weariness in her head to rest, and made her feel at ease. Her oldest friend, and the only love that had mattered. The one that had changed her life, and made her better than she was before. Maybe someday, Anath would be able to think of Heart without an ache in her chest and a longing in her voice. Maybe someday, but not today.

In truth, she’d dreamed of Black Heart Machine more than anyone else. Anath didn’t want to confine the mare to the realm of dreams, to the realm of ghosts. If she’d thought hard enough about it, she could smell Heart on the wind. Sometimes Anath would dream of the afternoons they spent standing on the ledge that looked out over the Crossing, and onto the sea. The quiet conversations they had, the way they managed to keep each other together. Some day Anath may tell Oswin about Black Heart Machine, but it wouldn’t be today.

Oswin’s rapt attention was something Anath found both endearing and uncomfortable. She wasn’t used to talking this much-- being on her own for so long, there wasn’t really anyone to talk to. Being alone in the wilderness, in the wilds, and living her own life. Things had been so incredibly strange, and the only thing that Anath knew for certain was that she was glad to return home. In time, the battleworn mare would readjust to society. Readjust to being home, among sisters.

Anath whistled softly at the notion that mares had begun leading herds for themselves. A soft smile cursed greying lips-- damn. If only the sisters of old could see them. The retired General would give anything to see Carmen’s reaction, to see Corinth’s. Cudgel and Choke would have something to say about it too, that was for sure. A certain warmth washed over her, but it was short lived. The Lagoon began stealing colts… of course they had. Bodies were a commodity, one way or another. Anath was less than amused with the thought, unsurprised as well.

Then there was the idea of men being taken, held captive by forces that weren’t the Peak or the Lagoon. It was novel to Anath, though she realized the greater implications. There were bound to be some hiccups when things changed so quickly-- no handoff of power was entirely smooth, after all. Right. Greater implications. What would the new identity for the Peak be?

It took a moment for Anath to catch her breath at the top of the Peak, and she used that time to gather her thoughts. Softly, her gaze flickered to the stars-- one of her last nights with Heart hadn’t been unlike this one, late into the summer and a night filled with stars. Things had changed, but being home still put the old general at the top of the world. Oswin’s admission brings a soft smile to Anath’s face. Her thinking wasn’t wrong.

“There’s no such thing as perfect balance, and no one knows that better than the Islands.” Anath’s words were more to herself, basking in the light of the moon and the stars. “It seems the Peak’s purpose needs to be renewed-- we were a haven for women when there was no agency for us. Now we have agency,” her tail flickered at her haunches, thinking for a moment. “We need to decide what direction we’re going in from here.” Anath doesn’t hold a seat within the Peak, but that wouldn’t stop her. After all this time she’d returned home. Nothing would dissuade her from looking towards the future.
