It's way lower in age now with children's TV. Early elementary kids mimic the attitudes of the characters on Nichelodeon's "LOUD TV" where they have all the bad attitudes of adults to model after.
Todays 7 year olds are smart asses just like comedic situation comedy adults on TV... its the kids version of Married with Children--a show whose comedy lines are based on face to face insults.
Actually I didn't know my dad was lazy then until after I became an adult. Kids accept their lots in life as just part of life unless their neighbor friends have nicer parents. Only THEN do kids realize not all kids are slapped around or don't have an 8pm bedtime or otherwise raised like little obedient soldiers.
They figure out that kids don't get to pick their parents... but as parents, some raise their kids the same as they were raised and others swear to raise their kids BETTER than they were raised.
Thats why my kids were better raised, wife and I both agreed not to think that 'children should be seen and not heard' like 1950s parents did.
