Twelve to 15 captive countries broke away from the Soviet Union in the late 1980s-early 1990s when the Soviet Union was dissolved. Putin and leaders of the former Soviet Union have been pissed ever since, wanting to re-construct the Soviet Union and bring those nations BACK under Communist control.

China has had similar feelings toward Taiwan, since “free” China broke away from mainland Communist China in 1949. Communist China has NEVER recognized Taiwan as a free, independent nation, and wants that island under Communist control.
If the USA was either burdened with a war against Russia OR slithered away from Ukraine the way they did when Biden abandoned Afghanistan, might China see an opportunity invade/take over Taiwan?
