Re(1): Priorities In Time Of War

Well, eastern Ukraine is pretty darned Russian, says my spouse whose been to Donetsk 2 or 3 times. They're all bilingual (Russian and Ukrainian), their kin tends to be from there, and keep in mind that most people who lay low in life don't much care about government and dont' feel much affected by it.

Yeah, I'm playin devil's advocate here, trying to keep some perspective. If Putin will keep his pants on, not much will change but the colors on the flag and I for one am used to the Big Bear oer there for more than half my life. People behind the iron curtain still get laid, hae kids, find jobs, go swimming in the Black Sea and watch their "Cosmo"nauts float around in orbit. And yup, they enlist in their army to defend their flag or expand their way of life. Just like we do.

Keep in mind that some 40 percent of Americans don't mind living under a dictator and follow him to the grave by taking his advice and getting their Covid remedies at the feed store.

Lets see just how much blood is let compared to how many needless Covid deaths we've had, or how many Ukrainian soldiers die compared to how many of my classmates died for nothing in Vietnam and yours in the Mideast!

If the Ukrainans decide to fight, there'll be a lot of bloodletting and a bunch of unhappy Russian families when the boxes start coming back. Russia's been through this before, like us...fighting a worthless war in AFghanistan only to leave like we did in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Wonder if there's a Russian version of "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?"

We truly are all distant descendents of warlike cultures!

Think more strategically Patton, maybe we SHOULD be more concerned about our footprint on the planet, rather than fertilizing it with each other's blood. This is just another fight over land and lets be mindful how we happened to migrate to this hemisphere not so long ago.
