Bacardi thought, for a single solitary moment, that he had broken through to the mare as her grief briefly paused. But just as quickly as it stopped, her sobs returned, making him step closer only to stop with confusion. Cursed? If that were the case, wouldn’t he be considered cursed too? Everyone he had ever known and cared about disappeared. Even his sister, though he was thankful that she had returned. Soraya and now even Twinge were the only ones who hadn’t disappeared or died under his watch.


Determined, Bacardi eased closer. Reaching out his dark muzzle so that he could brush it along her wet cheek in a soft caress. "If you are cursed, then so am I.” the stallion murmured, still trying to comfort the stranger. He did not believe in such things as curses though. Only that fate could be cruel to some, and shine brightly on others. His was like a storm. Bacardi never knew when it would be a gentle, pleasant rain or a destructive tornado. Still, he wasn’t about to lay out all his woes to this hurting stranger.


"Come on.” Bacardi gently beckoned, his dark nose leaving her cheek to reach further down so he could nudge at her neck. Encouraging her to get up. Remaining soaked, laying on the beach, wouldn’t help anyone. "Before the tide decides to take you back.”


No matter how badly he wanted to go home, Bacardi decided he would stay here on the Crossing with this mare. At least for a little while longer. He had come here seeking members for his herd, but this seemed more important. Her grief was so strong, speaking to his own, that Bacardi couldn’t just abandon her. No matter how many times she tried to send him away.
