There are kazillions of people who'd love to get on with Uncle Sugar, where you don't have to be good at what you do, nor fast and efficient. You just have to show up on time and stay there until 4:30!
I learned that doing contract work at the EPA over in KCK many years ago. IT explains why service is so slow at the Post Office, the license bureau, in education, the military, and other gumment places. That of course doesn't apply to gumment contractors which is temp work that tends to pay well but has few benefits.
Ya virtually can't get fired as a GS worker unless you're a political appointee--then your job lasts 2 to 4 years until their other party takes over. But civil service work is a job for life. Replies:
