Like a new born foal, the sea birthed the fuzzy creature onto the beach, wet and cold. At first, she did nothing, only the rise and fall of her flanks showing any sort of life as she spluttered and panted for air. The salty water had filled her mouth, her nose and her lungs when the last wave had swallowed her up. The crash of water pushing her beneath the surface which is why she had come ashore so ungracefully. Green eyes still sparkled with curiosity when she finally sat up, peering around at her new surroundings.

Surya had never seen so much green before. Despite the heat of summer drying up some of the vegetation, it was nothing like the land she had just escaped. The home she had run away from. A soft snort escaped her flared nares, pushing away the thought as well as trying to clear her airway, before she pressed her legs out before her and then tried to hoist herself up.

The first attempt was a failure, but the second was not. Surya’s legs shook beneath her, weak from the long swim. It forced her to stand there a few minutes longer before she finally ventured away from the lapping waves at her heels, and further into the strange land. She didn’t bother to shake away the sand clinging to her side, or the water that still dripped from her matted mane and tail. The only thought on her mind was to find another equine, since the scent of her species seemed to overpower the land.

When Surya spotted the mare, she immediately changed her course and approach her. She couldn’t recall ever seeing one as beautiful as the stranger, but even with that passing through her mind, it didn’t slow down Surya’s long strided walk. The golden color mare wanted to look purposeful, not timid, even though she was about to bust at the seams with excitement. How could anyone ever feel upset with food so plentiful?

“Hello” she greeted as she reached the mare, stopping a respectful distance and giving a dip of her head. “What is this land called?” Surya asked as she raised her head again, green eyes meeting that of the stranger’s. The haflinger’s only intentions of gaining knowledge of where she had ended up, and then moving on.
