I have just been informed by my contact in AAVN, that the L brevet was changed to A in NOV 2007. This was because the operater was more involved in his/her role, than just loading and unloading, so I suppose that that there is merit in this. I think I read somewhere very recently that the A brevet also replaced the Observer brevet and maybe others also.
The backseater in the Army Tiger chopper is a pilot and obviously wears Pilot wings. Gẻnerally speaking, the junior pilot would be the backseater.
