My thoughts:

1 From what I have observed, the overall pace of the game has slowed considerably since we collectively entered adulthood. We don't have the time we did when were were younger and lacked the myriad responsibilities we have now. And, we've all talked about that fact more than once. That's why I propose we lengthen the in-game year.

As for an 8-month year not ending neatly on the year mark, I can see how that might convolute things... but, also not. There is already a discrepancy in how players age their characters, which hasn't seemed to have a negative affect on anything even when characters from the same generation have different ages. I think the only age that really matters in-game is when they reach maturity, which is easily calculated from the character's birth date, or even simplified to identifying which month will be "two springs later." And, as has always been available, players are welcome to age their foals faster if they so choose.

2 I think the battle rules should remain "per season." The battle board is rarely utilized for anything besides experience farming; perhaps a longer in-game year, with the same amount of "risk" per season, would allow or encourage people to pursue plots that are challenge-based.

Re: Pippa's initial thoughts:
In my opinion, battles haven't been "worth it" for years: players use the board to passively gain experience on the off-chance their character might be targeted at some point, not for IC-driven reasons.

3 I think the experience cap should remain as is, 5 per season. There are a lot of ways for characters to earn experience, and most characters don't ever reach their cap each season. This could encourage more raids/escapes, or more participation in random events, or battles with stakes. However, based on what I've seen over the years, it's likely people will slowly accumulate points through practice battles alone and be content with it. I do not believe the number of random events should increase.

4 I think raids/escapes should remain as per-season events, especially since these events are always threads. Let's give them time to thread.

5 I think the Peak/Lagoon elections should stay as once per year. This will give characters and plots time to develop, and if there is dissension among the respective herds, mutiny remains an option to overturn those in power.


So, those are my thoughts. If we do implement this change and find that certain restrictions aren't working, there is always the option to revisit and adjust as needed. Like I said on the inbox, I'm curious what everyone else thinks about it, or what other concerns there may be.
