I wear this crown

Countless seasons, she had looked for him. The memory of his grey ears and bobbing head in the waves growing to be a distant memory. Lace would never forget the feeling of warmth when he embraced her. The loyalty in every breath he took. Love in every beat of his heart. But Lace wondered if she would forget his face as time dragged on? The shape of his chiseled jaw. The furrowed likes at his beautiful blue eyes. No, the spotted pony mare was sure she could never forget those things either. If ever she lost her mine, her memory, Lace was sure that those things would stay. Forever burned into her mind.

But no matter how much Lace remembered her long lost stallion, it would not carry on her life now. She had spent enough time pining in sadness for him to appear. To rescue her from the grief that clung to her heart in losing him. She needed to move on. She needed to try and pick up her own life again, and wield it like a weapon she was sure it was shaped to be. But how was she to ever pick a stallion to follow once again, when they would never compare?

Deciding she couldn’t, Lace took the matter from her own hands by going to the very first place she had appeared when first coming to the islands what seemed forever ago. The Commons. It made her speckled ears pin briefly as she peered across the open expanse, but only momentarily. This was her choice, after all. She couldn’t let the unknowing stallion in on how prickly she was until after they had taken her home. If they knew before, what chance did she have?

With a sigh, the pony mare strode out into the open grasslands, hoping this would be over soon.
