He often thinks of his family when he comes here to the Commons - this place of new beginnings. He thinks of his sisters most of all. Those that raised him, teased him, taught him that there is strength in numbers against most things. He does not often think of how his family may have changed in his absence, although sometimes he wonders if his sisters have struck out on adventures of their own as he has. He prefers to keep the memories as they were - a time capsule that he can return to again and again.
The autumn moon hangs heavy in the sky, full and orange bright. Insects chitter and sing in the over laden grasses fat with seed. There is a chill in the air, though not unpleasant, his breath pluming hot before him. Into the open meadow another comes, her eyes full of wonder, the red of her skin bathed in moonglow. She whirls, taking it all in, and Arroyo can almost feel the vitality radiating off of her. It draws him in - her eagerness to drink the world around her.
He approaches, calling gently so that she might see him and not fear his coming. He thinks of the pale mare he had met, if you could call it that, at the Falls seasons ago - how his very presence had spurred such primal panic in her. She had fled, and he had been left confused and concerned. He does not know what to expect from the red mare before him, but he does his best to respect her space, stopping nearby.
"It's so big tonight," he says looking at the fatted moon. "I don't think I've ever seen it this color before, have you?" He looks to her then, struck by the way the orange moonlight catches in her hair, how it lights her face. He smiles hopefully. Replies:
