More On The Sinking Scripps Ship

With the layoffs at Scripps, insiders say that employees are confused with exactly what Scripps is trying to do.

“Smaller market newsrooms are feeling so dejected about the layoffs, then watching job postings for double/triple what they were making,” said one Scripps insider to FTVLive.

So, for the next couple of weeks, Scripps CEO Adam Symson will hold a series of “town halls” to try and calm the staff and explain the end game.

This was the email sent to the staff an obtained by FTVLive.

"Newsroom employees:
In his May On My Mind email [r20.rs6.net], President and CEO Adam Symson introduced our bold new effort to reprioritize news and information in our local station programming. Through this news initiative, we are putting greater emphasis, resources and focus on what we do to connect with and engage our audiences.
In July, Adam will hold hour-long town halls for news employees to learn more about the news initiative and our vision for success, and he will answer your questions.

The news initiative is a shift away from some of the traditions of our industry. Through these town halls, we hope to provide clarity and understanding about what we are working to accomplish. "
