turn men into beasts

In the deepest parts of the jungle, near the border with the harbor, Tyr stands alone. His blue-green eyes shut, and his striped face as relaxed as his posture. The giant rested in the quiet his home offered him, the peaceful sounds of the wind rustling leaves and the distant sounds of birds breaking the silence. Only the humidity was beginning to bother the stallion, his golden neck darkened with sweat beneath the thick trusses of mane draped over his neck. Soon, the heat would be a distant memory, and the gentler season of winter would settle over Atlantis. Tyr knew not to expect snow, this was his third time wintering here in the Ridge. But his body didn’t seem to have gotten that memo, as his patchwork pelt had already begun to thicken in preparation of the colder days ahead, should he still live in the Lagoon.

When the heat bothered Tyr enough to wake him from his nap, the stallion peeked open his eyes while lifting his face towards the clear blue sky. Not a single cloud dared to block its harsh rays and he found himself squinting against its brightness. A snort, followed by a harsh swish of his thick, heavy tail; the Ridge ruler left his resting spot to head towards the nearest relief he knew of. A stream.

Without crossing over into the Harbor, Tyr skirted the neighboring territory along a path the wildlife on Atlantis had created. It helped the giant stallion navigate the otherwise too narrow pathways that cut between the trees and brush, and he only had to duck his head beneath branches every once in a while. Often, it left him with a few leaves littering his mane and along his back, but he didn’t care. Especially when he could hear the soft babbling of the stream across sandstone. Once the stallion spotted it up ahead, he couldn’t help but walk a little faster as he licked his lips in anticipation. Tyr barely paused as his hooves touched the wet sand at the bank to look for danger, then dropped his head towards the crystal clear, cold water to quench his thirst greedily.
