She couldn't tell much about the creature that stood before her other than that he reeked of musk and had giant feet if the thudding she'd felt as he approached were to be believed. Or he was a regular-sized horse throwing a tantrum.
Either way, he needed to get out of her sun.
The pinch of his teeth was so unexpected that she could not hide the outraged squeal of defiance that whistled from her lips, the sound whooshing out of her like a suddenly compressed accordion. She shot to her feet with indignant pride, shocked by the sheer audacity of this stranger to touch any part of her without her consent.
As the spoiled daughter of Rougaru and Sonorae, Roux had faced very little true adversity in her life. The few times her mother had tried to deny her anything, the little silver filly - spitting image of her father that she was - had only needed to bat her flaxen eyelashes to get her way. Sheer luck alone had continued this streak of easy living for the girl, allowing her to explore the world with few hindrances for her to complain about.
Until now.
"Go with you?" She mocked, each word a hurled dagger. "Not if you were the last stallion on the islands." She was nearly half a foot shorter than him but that didn't stop her from squaring up to him and lifting her chin defiantly. "Just who do you think you are anyway?"
It was only as she delivered the final line that she really took him in - all the way from his huge feet to the swathes of rippling muscle that wrapped around his body - and her weight shifted back a fraction, almost as if she was reconsidering her stance. As quickly as that flicker of doubt appeared, however, it vaporized and she narrowed her bright green eyes on the handsome stallion again as if daring him to try and put her in her place.
