Re(2): Question of the week #317 (REDUX) - What's wrong with playing lefty? Posted on January 18, 2024 at 03:36:57 PM by Craig G
I hadn't Googled that in a while but here's what I found.
At the state level, the owners have stated clearly they they are in favor of decoupling, and an end to the greyhound part of their business. But the state legislators don't agree, and think that the greyhound races are a good thing for the state's economy. So it appears to be a going nowhere stalemate for now.
At the national level, "House Bill 3894 was introduced June 7, 2023 and would amend the Animal Welfare Act to prohibit commercial greyhound racing, live lure training, open field coursing and other purposes."
So that, if passed, would wipe out greyhound possibilities for the entire country.
However, the most recent action in the House was:
07/28/2023 Referred to the Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry.
Action By: Committee on Agriculture
Speaking of livestock, I am hoping that the paperwork may have been trampled and eaten by some hogs thereabouts. But realistically it looks the Subcommittee is not trying to set the track record for speed on this one. And since they say that more than 90% of proposed bills die in committee, that is also a good possibility.
Here is a link to a decent short article on the subject.
My guess, not being an expert, would be that the state legislature will keep treading water, and if the national bill does pass, that it would allow some phase-out time. Replies:
