Goldenrod

Whispering winds slowly curl around the land, sliding against the rolling dunes and the rough sandy ground. Cactus plants rise towards the sky with little fruits at their caps, drawing the attention of desert bred birds and many other critters. The sound of bugs roaming, snakes slithering, and little mammals had a golden mares ears perking. Eyes of honey blinked for a moment before slender black legs skirted around a shorter prickly cactus.
Perking her black tipped ears, the golden mare named Goldenrod sniffed at the air. Her lungs expanded as she brought in many scents, her mind trying to pick over them for a certain one she had scented on the crossing isle. He had smelt of hot sand and warm temperatures, something that had her willing to cross the vast ocean to find him. The mare's slender build was not entirely desert bred, but being a morgan gave her the ability to handle the heat unlike most others. She had the will of an Arabian and the strength of an ox, but that did not take away from the cunningness of a fox and the manipulation she could play with a steady hand.
Tilting her head, Goldenrod halted her movements and let her honey eyes trail after a snake that had been shaking its rattle at her. She was far from impressed, but she slowly moved with a wide berth before she came to the tip of a hill and sent her ears high on her head and let the wind drag at her black mane and tail. Her slender body stood like a statue, taking in the vast space of the desert before she took in another lungful of air. Giving a smile, Goldenrod opened her dark lips and gave a cry towards the stallion she had tracked, his scent stronger here than she would have expected.
