yourself. She will not be sullied or traded, unless you deem otherwise. But should you bring a mare here without a new brother first, then I will consider her property of the Lagoon as a whole

Rules

• The Lagoon is where homeless stallions come to live as a brotherhood. Mares may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Soldiers keep mainly to fighting, Thieves keep mainly to raiding, and Associates may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Marauder or Boss for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Boss maintains order within the Lagoon and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Lagoon works on the Rules page.

• Upon election, the Boss can issue a rule for members to follow during their tenure. It is up to leadership to enforce.

Vervain did not move when she heard the stallion shake himself and snort, though a dark ear had twitched at the sounds. Her brown eyes remained focused on the trees in her vision, trying not to see the sunset peeking from beyond the leaves and trunks. The mare closed her eyes gently at first and then squeezed them shut. The early morning dream of Nephilim at her side now seemed like a cruel joke, and her inner resolve wavered at the memory. How could she have been so stupid and gone to the beach alone? With that added guilt that her mother had specifically asked her not to?

The black maiden nearly started crying again then and there at the thought of her mother surely worried about her now. Had they already started looking for her yet? Her lower lip trembled. Mom would know she planned on going to the beach that morning. Somewhere on that beach were bound to be signs of the chase. Would they still be able to find her scent or that of her thieving kidnapper? She had to hope that they would. Even if she didn't know where they were, maybe something about his scent would reveal more to her parents, somebody.

In the midst of all her quivering, the pricking pains of his bites and bruises, and her rushing thoughts, Vervain hadn't paid attention to the sounds of the dark man's approach. The huff from his maw startled the girl, and, with wide eyes, she watched in sheer terror as his head lowered toward hers. It took everything in her not to flinch as his breath washed over the skin on her face. Her brown eyes watched his face panic-stricken, thinking he was going to bite her face now. Instead he just... hovered over her, looking at her with a wordless question. Why did he look like that? Why did he seem confused?

The potential look of concern was not something her brain could reconcile with the abuse she'd suffered all day to get here. Wherever "here" was that he'd stashed her away. There was no way he'd started caring about her well-being out of nowhere. It was a ploy or something. Some sound further resonated in his chest. Vervain didn't understand it. She was still too frightened of him to ever consider that, in his own way, he was trying to comfort her. Her eyes shimmered, on the brink of tears again though her waterline burned. Vervain's voice was hardly above a whisper, afraid even now that he would strike her dead. "Why did you bring me here?"
