Carden Alvar Nature Board by Bob BowlesSunday May 7

My wife and I drove Wylie Road Sunday afternoon. The shrikes were spotted along with numerous bluebirds. Towhees and brown thrashers seemed to be all over the place. Besides the shrikes the highlights of the day were a pair of kestrels nesting in a dead tree back from bluebird box 10 (the female was going into and out of a hole in the truck) and a grasshopper sparrow near the buildings on the left side of the road south of box 10.

A pair of pileated woodpeckeds in a tree right next to Road 46 about 4 km north of Highway 12 on the way back to Barrie capped the day nicely
