Jumping Mouse & Milksnake Posted on September 8, 2006 at 10:50:30 PM by Margo Holt
On a morning walk at Prairie Smoke Nature Reserve we observed a Meadow Jumping Mouse & a Mikesnake. The Meadow Jumping Mouse is one of 2 species of jumping mice in the area. They are characterized by very large hind feet & small, short forelimbs. They use their large hind feet to powerjump away when alarmed. The milksnake had large dark blotches on a grey background & a black & white checkered belly. A beautiful snake indeed & a great 'mouser' in farm areas. Always something interesting to see at Prairie Smoke. Replies: There have been no replies.
