Carden Alvar Nature Board by Bob BowlesBlack-billed Cuckoo Chick

I tried, once again, for Clay-colored Sparrows today, with no luck.

I got there late and that did not bode well for my luck until late afternoon. A couple of photographers told me that they had got Black-billed Cuckoo and I hadn't even seen one let alone been able to photograph one and was getting ready to head for home when I stopped to chat with Ken Tryon. He pointed out a chick on a branch and asked if I knew what it was. I said I thought it must be a Black-billed Cuckoo as one had been seen in the area carrying food.

Very soon the adult arrived and fed the chick. Still no pictures of the adult but I did, with Ken's help, get the chick! I stayed for another hour trying to get the adult but, as I can see in my last image, the chick can fly and could have gone anywhere!
