Ice Mountain

The Ice Mountain is much smaller than Wolf Mountain, yet climbing up it is far more difficult and shouldn't be attempted in winter. Some creatures collect the shiny stones at the peak of this mountain for necklaces.

The mountain was desolate and beautiful, a glistening peak of ice tearing at the sky like a jagged fang. The wind blew harshly, whipping through the white wolf's thick fur. She stepped carefully, silently, despite her great bulk. The ice and snow muffled her steps, and the rush of the air swept away whatever sound was left.

There was no reason for silence. She was completely alone. No one came to Ice Mountain during the winter. It was harsh enough during the warmer seasons. Only a fool would come here, or someone very confident in her own skills of survival. Kali was the latter, in this case.

She was not actually a full-blooded wolf. Her father was three fourths collie, and looked like a purebred. Even her brother looked more collie than wolf, but she had turned out the opposite. She was wolf-like, and she was huge. In her twisted mind she fancied herself a dire wolf, though as far as she knew they no longer existed. A neo dire wolf, she thought with a malicious grin.

Kali walked with a limp, but it didn't slow her down. It simply gave her movement a staggered, jerky quality which made her seem even less natural. It could also be used to her advantage. If prey or enemy saw her limping and took her to be injured, it was easier to surprise them by just how fast she could move when she wanted to.

She was moving very slowly now, winding her way around the crystal teeth of the mountain, fading in and out of sight as flurries of snow enveloped her. The cold cut her to the bone, and she relished it, because she knew it wanted to keep her... to wrap her in its stiffening shroud and bind her in death to the mountain, but she would not let it, and thus it would be a victory for her. She would defy the winter, just as she defied the world itself.
