I moved carefully through the tall grass, the sun gently caressing my skin. I cast my deep dark eyes upward, looking at the clear blue sky with dark brown eyes. Where was this place, I wondered silently. I kept moving, pushing the grass out of my way with extended arms. Perhaps this adventure would be easier if I didn’t stand at around four feet tall. I didn’t mind really; I was a fairy after all. Not that it meant much at this point in time, as I was still a level one. I didn’t mind though, I knew I would get stronger in time.
Finally I came to a clearing in the gigantic meadow. My eyes took in a clear blue lake and a deer that seemed to be looking for a safe place to take a drink. I stood still, hoping I wouldn’t spook the large animal. I dropped down to my knees, placing my hands on the ground. Already the grass I touched began to grow a little just as the energy from my body flowed into the earth. I moved closer, crawling as slow as possible. I watched as the deer lowered her head to the pond, spreading her legs a bit like a foal does. I crawled a bit further as the deer gulped up the refreshing water, cursing my hair as it kept falling in my face.
snap!
I cursed my clumsy self as the deer turned and bolted, fearing for its life. I went back on my knees, and then sat on my bum with my arms crossed across my knees. That would just be my luck, wouldn’t it? I rather failed at being a fairy, didn’t I? I layed back, my dark brown hair sprawling out onto the deep green grass. I looked upward at the blue sky, spying a cloud here and there. I wish I had the power to change their shape and make them move. I wished I was better at what I did; I was quite the misfit. I had been run away from my old home in a last fit of juvenile rebellion; I didn’t fit in there and it was only a matter of time before they kicked me out of the commune anyway. What could someone like me, with no real power, do to contribute?
I slowly drifted to sleep, dreaming of things Shakespeare would later take credit for, as the sun began to turn the world a lovely shade of gold. It was only a matter of time before I found my place in the world. But for now, my bit of paradise was this lonely meadow.
