Freebies are often granted to "all active characters". A character is considered active if it has made an IC post within the last 2 weeks. Posts made after the freebie was posted do not count.

this doesn't apply to a lot of people, but everyone should read through just to make sure that they are clear.
because shaman doesn't have a surname culture, a surname is part of the character's whole name. this means that if your character is named Alice Smith, this is what should be written in the name box of posts. not just Alice, not just Smith, but Alice Smith.
this is important because if a character has two names, both names are still available individually. for example, if i had a character named Dougie Poynter, someone could call a character of theirs Dougie or Poynter.
also, surnames are not passed from parent to child during breeding unless it is specified in the breeding post itself. if my character Alex Pettyfer had a son called Mitch, he would only be Mitch Pettyfer if I had included the surname in the name choices.
in essence, your character's name is the full name in the database. this makes it easier to see which names are taken and which can be used, and also helps us mods when we do updates and things.
