When the light hits the ridge just right, the rock-lion’s lips appear to curl back into a vicious snarl.
The image of Lauma which Mallos magically had carved into the side of Falcon Point’s majestic mountain is steadily eroding away, and it seems to Jae as if every day she is becoming less and less like a regal lioness and more and more like a misshapen lump. The words which previously stood beneath her, “Hail to Mallos, our beloved God and Kaiser” have already been worn away by a combination of time, weather and gardening tools. Gardening tools, Jae has found, are exceptionally useful for removing unwanted artificial landmarks.
This stretch of peace which followed the confusion of the period of time some know as the empty cave and others as the power vacuum has heightened the prosperity of Jae’s small but proud territory. There’s no sign at all of the avalanche from two years ago; not only has the community of Falcon Point rebuilt itself, but it has advanced further than Jae had ever believed it could. It’s now less a collection of wooden huts and more a little village cut into the side of the mountain with beautiful little cottages bearing thatched rooftops. True, it’s a little colder here than in the rest of Shaman, but that’s how he likes it – and besides, with his fire manipulation it’s not hard for him to warm things up when they get a bit chilly.
Jae leans against the spade he’d been using to turn the new crop of vegetables up, looks up at the mountain towering over him and sighs with contentment. Life is good. He misses Patrick a lot – especially this last week while he’s been parading around as Aura – but he has the beautiful Aerianna to keep him company, and that’s all he needs.
