so basically, the third curse is 2 tsunamis which hit shaman simultaneously from both sides. this caused a massive flood, so everywhere but the castle in the core is uninhabitable. the only food available is that which was already in the core, so sooner or later they're going to run out. to prevent this, food is rationed, inducing a famine.
second curse is still operating.
