Carden Alvar Nature Board by Bob BowlesRe(1): Chuck-wills Widow

The bird started to call tonight at 9:13 p.m. and there were two other birders along with me there when it started to call. It continued to call until 9:40 p.m. and there were now 18 birders present. We had views of the bird as it flew from south of Doyle Road to north of Doyle Road. It moved three times and seem to circle the area where we were standing. The calls were rich and clear and very close to the road. I heard this species calling before in Ontario about 25 years ago in Point Pelee National Park and have not heard it in Ontario since until tonight. This is an excellent opportunity to hear this rare species in Ontario and it may be a long time before you will hear another one in Ontario.
