They had believed there was nothing until it began.

He came from the breaking dawn, a formation of shadow and listless hate. Crawling along the battered hillsides and deep in the valleys, probing crimson eyes.

The simple creatures of Ausus did not know, blinded by their own greed. With no law to control them they regarded none, not even this mysterious strange. He searched for months without stopping, he pried into their minds and unlocked their secrets. He pulled the skeletons from their closets, revealing every flaw.

Slowly black clouds began to sit over the sky, blocking them from the sun. No rain or wind, just unending darkness until finally the earth shook. It trembled uncontrollably.

They were frightened for the first time in an age. Ausus needed no god, so they received a devil.
