Carden Alvar Nature Board by Bob BowlesNorthern Hawk Owl and Bohemian Waxwings

The Northern Hawk Owl that was first reported during the Carden Alvar Christmas Bird Count last Sunday is still hunting in the wetland just south of Road 6 just east of the Road 6 and 46 junction.
Bohemian Waxwing numbers increase daily and there are now large flocks on the Carden Alvar, some flocks with more than 300 birds. It is difficult to give a total number of Bohemian Waxwings in the area but there are probably well over 3,000 birds.
There are also good numbers of Common Redpolls and I would ask if anyone observes a Hoary Redpoll in these flocks that they post it.
