Carden Alvar Nature Board by Bob Bowlesbusy morning

Was a little behind on my feeding rounds this morning as I now have to bring the feeders in at night due to raccoons.

Stepped outside to enjoy the sound of the evening grosbeaks and redpolls which I haven't heard in a while - the red-winged blackbirds and grackles have been making too much noise in the morning.

Next trip out with the seed, there are the two wild turkey hens waiting for their corn. From behind the truck struts the turkey tom in full regalia. His tail was fanned, his wings were dropped, his head was red and purple, his wattles were engorged. Sadly for him, the girls were only interested in the food.

As I continued my rounds, a flock of 8 Canada geese flew overhead. After their noise passed, I was able to hear, and eventually see, two sandhill cranes to the north.

Finally, a flock of 19 robins was joined by five starlings and an eastern bluebird female.
