Hoodies and Woodcock Posted on March 24, 2011 at 05:27:32 PM by Nath Rockhill
3 male hooded mergansers were showing off for 2 females yesterday at the bridge where Doyle Road enters CKL 35. Today several more, males and females, were in the creek below the Mitchell Lake dam, as were two swans. Despite really close looks I'm still uncertain about their IDs (no yellow lores, but straight necks ... )
In the woods just north of the dam my dog flushed a woodcock, which landed in a brushy clearing nearby, giving me a great chance to see it close up. I thought I'd heard one peenting in the area on the 18th; it was good to have confirmation. Replies:
