It was strange, this fatherly affliction. Certainly there had been times when he felt a strong pull towards his offspring that had made him want to protect them- but not once had they ever been torn from him in a manner he could have prevented it.
Certainly Hush was not his favourite person right now, and neither was her painted lover (Array was more sore over losing out to a less flashy stallion who, in his opinion, was like a mule next to his stallion), but he was more than willing to come to the aid of his young daughter who, for lack of a better word, belonged in the cove. Perhaps it was the concept of needing to win this ancient battle between man and woman for the possession of their conceived children, and perhaps it was just that Array had seen the baby blue eyes in his daughter that he had seen in his own reflection, but he was still here with high hopes of taking her back with him to the cove at the end of the day.
“You wanted to go with her, I didn’t stop you love.” He lets her cry against his skin, feeling the moisture and knowing that she was unhappy. Let Daddy fix this, that’s what they’re here for. At the mention of the girl’s mother, the stallion pushes his dark ears backwards for a second, knowing full well that something had changed in her the moment Cersei was born- but he wouldn’t explain this until the girl was older. He only uses the best excuse that he can think of in the time being, spurred on by the girl’s mentioning of the other man. “I think Hollowpoint changed her…” That must have been it; the mare had disappeared while still carrying their daughter, and had returned changed, with a stallion behind her asking for her hand.
Damn it.
The realization rises a slight temper in the pale stallion, but he shakes it off and puts his lips to his daughter’s shoulder, running is breath over her skin as he thinks for a moment. “Whatever you want, Cersei, but I still would rather you come home.” His voice is soft, and he’s just hoping he can take her away from this, give her more comfort and familiarity in all her siblings and the other women who, without needing any word from Array, would take the young girl under their wings without a second thought if she so needed it.
