Carden Alvar Nature Board by Bob BowlesTrumpeter Swans at Canal Lake

There are a pair of Trumpeter Swans on the western side of Canal Lake [north of Bolsover, east of Brechin]. They have apparently been there for some weeks and my family - non-birders- are pretty sure they don't have the yellow Wye Marsh tags on their left wings. I saw the pair only briefly, on the water, with a third circling overhead.

Canal Lake is marked on maps. Take Canal Lake Rd, which runs off Rohaillon Rd. There is no public access to the west shore but our cottage is sign posted "Monahan" and I believe the emergency number is "09". If the neighbours ask, tell them Peter Monahan said it was 'ok' to use the shoreline there to watch them. They are less than 100 meters off shore, so a fine view if you need these for your year list or just like to watch stately swans!
