Her words, soft and ominous, filled him with an odd mixture of anticipation and dread as she slowly but surely unveiled her reason for being here. He found himself metaphorically on the edge of his seat, every muscle tense and every fibre in his ears strained to hear what she would conclude with. When at last his own name left her lips, a wave of shocking cold rippled over his skin, and it took him a moment to register precisely what she had said, though he had been listening so intently. His lips had parted in the course of her speech, and he now stood still, aware of sweat trickling uncomfortably between his loins, and stared with wonder and simultaneous horror at the mare who was, he was almost now completely certain, his long-lost sister.

For a long moment, he considered shattering the mystery right there, and revealing that he was, in fact, the one she sought. But still, there were missing pieces in the puzzle, things he still did not understand. Why was she here? Where was their mother? "How do you know that name?" he finally managed. His tongue felt thick and awkward, and it was almost a struggle to speak. The maelstrom of emotions swirling through his being was tumultously confusing, for he felt joy and fear and grief all at the same time. Woe's presence... her being here... this was the start of something new, and he was about to find out precisely what that was, whether good or bad.
