The Rules
  • There will be no fraternizing with enemies. If you put yourself knowingly in danger, don't expect a rescue.
  • We are only as strong as our weakest link. See to it that you are getting stronger in some skill that is useful, whether it is battling, recruiting, charming, etc.
  • The King and Queen have final say in all matters.
a welcome arrow through the heart

Thankfully, it was not long before the mare managed to return to her feet despite the sand sliding and spraying beneath her, and Encantador managed to exhale a small breath in relief when she did not go down again. He eyed the foal briefly out of sympathy before Alexa's tough-as-nails voice clawed the air. Shifting his weight with surprise, he snorted and watched as the chestnut female began to stalk off. She was up and moving, yes, but there was an indeniable lameness to her stride no matter what she claimed. Any idiot could see that she was hurt.

"I think someone's telling a fib," he muttered playfully to the filly, almost thankful that she was here to be the voice of wisdom for her dam. Almost as soon as he'd said it, however, he felt foolish for making a joke in such an inappropriate situation. He'd almost forgotten how awkward he was around children, for he had none of his own. It did not help that he could not remember this filly's name, if Razvan had mentioned her at all. But he looked with concern down at the filly nonetheless as she pleaded with him, her bright little eyes staring up at him with the desert sun reflecting like gems in her pupils. She hardly needed to: he hadn't been planning to give up so easily.

"Alexa," he called out, hoping his use of her name would stop the mare in her tracks with surprise, just milliseconds before her forelegs crumbled beneath her. Cursing under his breath and momentarily forgetting about the roan girl beside him, the stallion cantered briskly to the chestnut mare's side and looked down at her with a strange hardness in his gaze. Fight fire with fire, he thought, swishing his tail. "Razvan told me to expect you. I am his lead, and you are on my lands. It will not do for him to return from Cimarron to find you having broken all your legs because you were too proud to admit you needed help, so you must come with me. I will help you to a safe place where you can rest until he returns.

"That is not a request," he added as an afterthought.
