site-wide plot: lorraine's revenge.
IP: 82.14.67.140

In her eyes, Lorraine was a tolerant creature. She never asked too much of anyone. In this case, she had only asked that that which had been stolen from her should be returned – a very generous request, since it implied she was prepared to forgive for the theft in the first place. And what had they done in exchange for her benevolence? Nothing. No investigation into her missing possessions had even been conducted. Simply put, Lorraine was furious.

Tsi had warned her that Shaman was not to be touched, but what Tsi didn’t know couldn’t hurt him. Lorraine was part of the diplomatic triad of deities (consisting of herself, Zed and Mallos) and understood better than most people that any consequence could be avoided if one took certain precautions. In this case, Tsi couldn’t know what was going on in Shaman if no messages reached him. And no messages could reach him if the designated messenger was… taken care of. Lorraine had personally seen to it that Mallos wouldn’t be writing to Tsi any time soon before proceeding with the second stage of her plan.

Lifting herself high towards the heavens, she surveyed the world of Shaman with undisguised distaste. What a pitiful place. Where was the culture, the style, the sophistication? Really, these simple country folk were no better than barbarians. Once her work here was done, the Russian deity would be returning to her elegant home in Moscow to put her feet up and relax a little. Goodness knows she deserved to.

She began with the islands to warm herself up. Lorraine almost chuckled at her own joke: warm herself up.
‘Icing’, the act of rendering a place too cold to live in, was a particular speciality of Lorraine’s and the favourite of her acute weather control powers. Within twenty minutes, a biting cold had settled over Apeliotes Island and the Lost Inlet, and the ice was already beginning to spread across the ground. If the fairies in those two territories had any sense, they would be making a run for the boats now before Lorraine froze over the ocean. Satisfied that her divinity was working at maximum efficiency, she turned her attention to her real target: the royal castle. King Arthur had insulted her by failing to take the theft of her possessions seriously, and now he would be among the first to pay. Simply icing his home would not be enough. With a quiver of vindictive pleasure, Lorraine caused the castle ovens to split open and engulf the kitchens in a special type of her favourite fire. The fire was fast-spreading and could not be put out in the conventional way (by starving it of oxygen); it could only be extinguished when it came into contact with anything coloured pure white. The palace guards would have fun figuring that one out.

Turning her back on the castle, Lorraine carefully iced each region of land within Shaman until only three territories remained: the Shady Labyrinth, Ily Moor and Vista Mountain. Sparing these three, she returned her attention to the castle and, slowly and with great satisfaction, iced that too. Now, bar the three ‘chosen’ regions, every territory in Shaman was covered in a thick layer of ice. Every home, every possession. A constant blizzard swirled across the lands now easily as cold as Antarctica. A slim magical barrier protected the three remaining regions, but even here the cold seeped in and feathery light snow was beginning to fall. Reaching out with her mind, Lorraine located Arthur in the Shady Labyrinth and teleported before him.

“To help your investigation along a little,” she smiled in a vampire-like manner. “Now all of Shaman is gathered together, so you can question them about my lost possessions. No need to thank me,” she waved a hand regally. “I accept your appreciation. I will be back in one month’s time; you have until then.”

Without waiting for a response, she vanished.

Because of the ice/weather, all IC regions of Shaman (including the Outer border) are inaccessible apart from the Shady Labyrinth, Ily Moor and Vista Mountain. Vista Mountain has been taken over by the pirates of Shaman, so all non-pirates will have to live in Ily Moor and the Shady Labyrinth. Any pirate who crosses into non-pirate territory and any non-pirate who crosses into pirate territory is liable to be captured by the enemy. Both sides can raid each other and attempt to take control of each other’s land.

The main effects of Lorraine’s magic are:
- Confinement to these three territories.
- An eternal winter. Even in the three “warm” territories it is still wintry, although liveable.
- Lack of living space. The population of Shaman is physically too large to house everyone in these territories, so people will need to bunk together in order to have a roof over their heads. The pirates will have less space than everyone else.
- Severe food and water shortage. Most water supplies are frozen, so in order to get water you will have to cut ice and melt it over a fire. All the granaries are inaccessible except for a few small ones in the Shady Labyrinth. There is farmland, but not enough to sustain the entire population of Shaman and the weather is having a poor effect on crop production. Again, the pirates will have less than the others. Most land and supplies are in the Shady Labyrinth, and most game is in Ily Moor.
- The ‘icing’ of Shaman happened so quickly that people would have to have left most of their possessions behind. Your characters won’t have most of their personal possessions with them, and there will be a shortage of warm clothes, blankets etc. There will also be a shortage of weapons and armour if the pirates/non-pirates want to start fighting.

As she warned Arthur, Lorraine also artificially aged Gwythr and Aura to twelve years old. There are now only eight relative years of peace left for Shaman.

External help from the Council of Originals is currently unavailable, since Lorraine turned Mallos into a cat.

While everyone is crammed together, you will also all need to try and solve the mystery of what happened to Lorraine’s missing possessions (her mirror and hairbrush). When the mystery is solved, Lorraine will return to collect them and Shaman will be de-iced.
