Vex leaped over to the river with Kage, as each little pup followed. Once by the stream, she stretched her neck down for a long gulp. She did not care for the fish that each darted away in fear. She did not care for Adrien bounding up beside her. Or did she? Vex whipped around, and stared at the pup who resembled her so much. The pup seemed to not recognize her mother yet. She felt hot, out of embarrassment for this distraction. So she stared the pup down, not daring to flinch.

Then she padded closer and closer up next to Kage, until their fur was touching. She whispered in his ear softly, "Honey, just ignore it. A pest, that thing is."

But really, Adrien wasn't a pest. She was Vex's daughter. And it was all Vex could do but keep her tears back. Her own daughter had forgotten about her. Vex had never forgotten about Adrien, or Masci, or Sentania, or any of her pups. They had filled a gap that had been empty for so man years: Love. Love. The word was so simple, yet so complex in meaning. Vex would hate to be so cruel to Adrien, but she was related by blood to Talon, so there was nothing else Vex could think of. And it wasn't Adrien. It was Talon. That cursed, foul, heartless, dog of a wolf had stolen the pups that were made by Vex and Vex only. She had been the one to give birth to them. She had the rights. And the only reason that Vex let her pup die was because once Talon started that vengeful fire, the stitches that her pups made were ripped once more. So her evil took the best of her, and she watched her own daughter get burned to death. Vex now looked back on that ashamed for her actions, but remembered the thrill of watching someone die out of her own anger. She remembered the sadness of being betrayed by her "true love." But most of all, she remembered Talon's evil face when he had threatened to kill her.

Now, the scene that happened so long ago was returning, even after Vex had hoed that it was the end. She had hoped she would see no more.

Vex turned her attention back to the pup. She hesitated to talk, as her raspy, yet smooth voice that was so barren, hollow, and empty was sure to give away her position. But Vex could not keep lies from her daughter.

"Adrien?" she whispered. Vex was surprised to find that, her voice was not full of hatred. It was sad, and shocked to find the pup back. Vex's eyebrows raised in sadness.
