the group murmured to themselves, as they stood waiting for the decree. The king stood there, still as stone, ready to make an announcement to his people. It was time to change the medocrity.

"We have a new system. All colts MUST attend the academy. Where they will be judged, based on ability to fight, listen to instruction, lead, and respect authority. If they pass, they will be given a mark. A mark that from this generation on means RESPECT. Those without the mark may not sire children. They may not lead herds. They are forced to a life of servetude to their fellow stallion. They will be called "Dedacaps". And any mare who dare breed herself with a dedacap shall be banished on the spot. Today we stop weakness. From now until the end of time we will only respect excellence."

200 years ago.

Though our numbers are few, we still follow our land's culture. Ignoring and abusing dedacaps left and right. Only respecting those who, as children, were chosen to lead. But my generation will change things. When I look into my foal's eyes, I see hope. I also see a horizon and a small island to take him to. There I will try to grow our numbers. We will choose who we can love and what we can accomplish. We will defeat the mainland.
