scylla -----
by anawar out of daenerys

This is the most comfortable Scylla has felt around anyone beside her mother. She and Daenerys had been forced to stick together under Dorian’s brutal rule, but the young mare knows that no matter where they would have ended up, she and her mother would have been inseparable. They’d relied on each other and only each other for so long that it feels odd to Scylla to be in this position.

Words don’t seem to be too important to either of them but the silence isn’t awkward; Scylla actually feels more peaceful than she has in recent memory. Her eyes wander, content to let the quiet wash over her. She watches the tiny sand particles shift with every teeny breath of wind, and she is reminded of her life. She’d never felt settled, never been able to really feel her feet planted on the ground. She’s never really been in charge of her own destiny, she realizes.

The stallion’s voice startles her and she blinks, withdrawing her gaze from their surroundings to focus on his grey face again. Her face twists in initial confusion, but at least she finally has something to call him by. She understands that his culture is vastly different from the one she’s used to, and she is desperate to understand it. Her own culture hasn’t done much for her, so what could it hurt?

She keeps her eyes on him even as his gaze drifts toward the sky. Her mother had been planning on teaching her the ways of whatever herd Dany had been a part of in her youth, but even then, Scylla hadn’t been sure it would have made much sense. Somehow, even with all the foreign words, Arishok’s ways intrigue her. She does feel a bit stupid asking all of these questions, not to mention worried that one of them might offend the stallion, who has so far been very tolerant.

Her voice is slightly hesitant but thick with curiosity as she asks, ”And what exactly is the purpose of an arishok?”
