Her burning eyes followed Nikola as he exited the ocean and she saw the hint of disappointment in him. If it weren't for the reason he explained, she would've smiled or laughed.. such cruelty but it brought her a rush of satisfaction. She looked around at the new mares. They were all sad and gloomy looking. If she had ever been a mother maybe she would've understood the loss, but for now all she saw was weak and sad creatures. No wonder stallions were the ones in control, she snorted in her mind.

Pierce watched the stallion's every move and noted his pinned ears and his head movement directed at her. If she was more in control of her emotions and actions, she would've been sensible and went to go cry with the other mares. Honestly she didn't see how that was comforting though. Instead she looked nowhere else but her eyes burned into Nikola. He wanted her to be happy here yet he sent this warning to her? Hmph. The bay mare swished her thin tail side to side and it slapped against her bony body. Her eyes wandered to the now brotherless foal and her eyes grew soft. Within an instant she blinked and focused back on the stallion.

After it seemed as if everyone was lost in their own thoughts, the mare stuck her head up fiercely and approached Nikola. She looked him over and snorted, flaring her black rimmed nostrils wide and she had that wild look in her eyes. She pinned her ears back as well and instead of a head gesture, the mare lunged out, nipped his withers, and cantered off a few lengths away from the group. Her hooves dug into the sandy beach as she made a near sliding stop and whipped her head around to see his reaction. Deep down, she hoped he would follow her off, away from the others... But you would never be able to tell.
