Retired Capt. Johnny Perkins and his wife, Linda, just advised me their son, Scott Perkins - 47 years old, died of a heart attack on July 20, 2012. Many of you will recall that Johnny, Scott Perkins, and Kelley (Johnny and Linda's youngest son) were all sworn officers on the Tampa Police Dept. in the late '80's and early 90's. Due to the departmental layoffs, Scotty left TPD and was employed by... the Orlando Police Department. In the late 90's Scott, as a member of OPD's Swat Team, was shot during a hostage situation wherein two children were being held by the suspect. Scott subsequently retired with a line of duty injury from OPD. He was living in Addington, Oklahoma at the time of his death. Scott has a 20-year old son - Cody Perkins.
Scotty was a Christian.
No funeral or memorial arrangements have been made at this time; however, the family is considering the possibility of a police funeral. I will post further details as I receive them.
Please lift Johnny, Linda, Kelley and Cody up in prayer during their period of grief. Also, to our TPD family, please share this information with other TPD members - present and retired.
