How nice it was, the nice soft breeze blowing and the birds chirping and the sun nicely tucked behind a stray fluffy cloud. Chavez with his head high triumphantly pranced across the Prairie, proud that he had finally escaped from his mother. Moxy was a great mother but could be a bit…..smothering. The colt was nearly a year old now and this was his first time to ever escape her clutches. With a snort and a shake of his head, a squeal escaped him and he took off with a kick up of his heels. Stretching out his legs he easily galloped across the flat grassy lands but the farther he got the more trees that loomed up ahead of him. Funny, he had never seen them before.

Slowing down as the trees grew thicker, the young explorer became a bit nervous. It was darker here, able to hide things. He hadn’t seen so many trees before but for some reason he continued on. The shadows that fell over his grey hide shadowed him, making him nearly black. Where was he?

Chavez raised his head, allowing his brown eyes to glance around as his slowing legs came to a stop. He was lost. The first time he had ventured away he had become lost. How great. The shadows danced around him, making him flinch one way then another. There was something there, he just knew there was. A snort escaped him again, fear this time rather than play. Stepping out again he began to trot. Panic began to rise in his chest, eyes showing the whites as he began to run. Not paying attention the young colt tripped over a log and went crashing down onto the forest floor. As he rolls back up to his side, pine needles and leafs clinging to him now but was too panicked to even get up.
