 bay blanketed mare of the dunes It occurred to Jezibelle as she stood at the top of the hill that she was easily visible to anything. Who knew what kind of evil lurked behind the next dune? As far as the bay draft could tell, there were no trees, and so there would be no fairies to keep her company here. Unless they were evil fairies. The sandy land would likely harbor malevolent spirits. No doubt the fine granules under her hooves were those very same spirits, ready to lift up at the slightest puff of wind and ingrain themselves in places they shouldn’t be.
While she contemplated the evils of sand, she was approached by a red-colored mare. Jezibelle lifted on ear to acknowledge the other female, but when she said nothing it flattened again like its partner. There was no sense inviting the spirits in, after all. Her dark eyes remained riveted on the sand until she heard another set of hoofbeats, and she lifted her gaze to see Badr approaching. He was exactly the horse she wanted to complain to at this very point in time, for it was his fault she was in such a horrible, fairy-less place. He drew up alongside the red girl, throwing her looks that appeared to be quite displeased. Jezibelle did not care what his quarrel was with the other mare. He was the first horse in the history of her entire five years to take an active, consistent interest in her, and until she could wrap her head around that she would not wonder at his opinion of others. She lifted the same ear she had for the red mare when he spoke, though she pinned it again as soon as he’d finished speaking. "Did you want it to?" she asked. "I could go back in, if you’d like." |
