The Rules
  • There will be no fraternizing with enemies. If you put yourself knowingly in danger, don't expect a rescue.
  • We are only as strong as our weakest link. See to it that you are getting stronger in some skill that is useful, whether it is battling, recruiting, charming, etc.
  • The King and Queen have final say in all matters.
The Gods contend in vain

There is no sweeter sound than the voice of a newborn. El Aran whickered in reply to her son —for he was decidedly male, though still too young to be stuffed into the ideals society held for him— and watched as he steadied himself on never-before-used legs. Once, El Aran might have scanned the horizon for signs of an approaching herd, of an impending attack thrumming across the sands. But there is no war here, and as long as she does not linger there is no reason to fear predators just yet.

The black mare brushed her muzzle against her son’s forehead and blew a puff of air on his tiny spiked forelock. "Come," she whispered, and then, again, more loudly, "Come." She straightened and stepped away from him, two or three slow steps before she paused and checked to see that her son was following her.

He had made it to his tiny feet without falling, his buckskin coat impossibly bright and soft against the hard, coarse orange of the sand beneath their hooves. His black legs were, as of yet, unmarred by scars but in time he would acquire them. He was perfect. Even the seer’s critical eye could find no visible flaw in him.

Only once she was certain her son would walk with her did El Aran turn and cross the remaining distance between the site of his birth and the wide oasis. Her thirst hung in the back of her throat, and she did not doubt the dry air would parch her son’s mouth as well. She would allow him to feed once they were in the shelter of the tall, thin trees that shaded the generous pool of water she had spent so many sleepless nights beside.
