TGrai cocked his head and gave her a bit of a smile. He liked his name, but she said it strangely.
“Hi!” he greeted in a very cheery way. Before he could get more words across, though, Vesti arrived. She did not like him running off in this manner. It was nerve-racking on the poor sorrel.
“Grai, how many times have I told you not to run off like that?” exploded from the irritated mare before she had the chance to address the other. The colt’s head dropped and his ears folded back. His tail, which had been happily moving before, stopped its motion.
“Sawry,” he said as cutely as possible. He didn’t want to get into trouble - well any more today. Grai had an uncanny ability to find it. Then again, most colts do - Vesti was just better at finding out about it than most mothers. It was in her nature to be very clingy. After all, she had been taken from her family at such an age where she barely remembered them.
She turned her eyes to the new mare. The mare with the strange ears - and Vesti certainly thought them strange. However, she moved her eyes away from them with concentrated effort. She offered a friendly smile.
“Hello,” she said. “I’m Vesti, and this is my son Grai. What brings you out to the Dunes? And shall we move on? The sun’s murder during the heat of the day.” She didn’t want to stay in one place for long for that reason. “There’s an oasis not far from here.”
Grai could not figure out how his mother was able to move about. The sameness of his sandy homeland was strange and it made him long for a little more. He also was pretty sure he wasn’t going to figure out how to get from place to place. Though, he was slowly learning even though he didn’t think he was.
