el cardo

Cardo smiled at the chocolaty stallion briefly. ”Sato, im going to go over there,” Her sharp head nodded towards the surf a few paces away. “I think you can handle this.” The golden mare had all the confidence in her son, she hoped she had raised him well. Her heart clenched at the literal distance she but between them. Sato needs to be a stallion, he isn’t just my baby anymore. Cardo glanced over her shoulder in time to see the colt shuffle his feet. He will be fine. The lady looked out over the water her fragile mind beginning to wander, she could feel a smile slipping onto her velvety lips as she was nudged farther away from the wind biting at her flesh, she frowned, her flesh. The sigh felt so magical slipping out, the sound relaxing. El Cardo smiled, her eyes glazing over with bliss. Im so happy in here, so...

He took a breath, composing himself. “I am sorry for the loss of your comrade.” Sato picked up his head, the youthful happiness bright in golden honey eyes. “I am a year but soon to be two. I know im young but, well Mam and I have lived alone since always so I haven’t picked up any bad habits.” The colt chuckled flicking his tail against his long legs. It was true that he had only had limited interactions with other equines, but El Cardo had passed on all that she knew about customs and behaviors. A dark thought crept into is mind, what if she had told him wrong. Sato could feel the panic rising up in his gut, what if she was wrong?! The idea of his mother ever being wrong had never ever occurred to him, she was always right though. He felt a shiver creep over his spine. Don’t show it Sato, stay strong, be confident. Change the subject! His gold ears flicked back “From what I understand, and what I have felt, your dunes are very warm.” He nodded towards Cardo with a soft smile. “You can see we don’t handle the snow as well as we would like.” Sato glanced at his large hooves nervously. His lanky frame had grown quickly leaving plenty of room for muscle to develop and a bit of height to be added in the following seasons. He would never be very tall or very wide, he had accepted his image long ago so he just planned to make the best of it. I will be strong if not in body then in heart. Like Mam. He brought his attention back to the lead in front of him. “It would be nice to have the chance to put down roots, find companionship.” he ducked his head slightly in embarrassment. “It would be nice to get out of nest and make a few male friends, id rather not be a mams boy forever.” He chuckled again feeling a bit more relaxed in this stallions presence. Maybe it was because his mother was only a few feet away, maybe he was gaining confidence. Either way he was feeling pretty independent at the moment. Prospects for his future blooming.
